Animal Abuse & Reason Behind It

India saw around 5 lakh cases of animal cruelty in the past ten years, but the number of unreported cases likely exceeds that number.

Most instances of animal cruelty go unreported, in contrast to crimes against people that are at least minimally brought to the attention of authorities. Most allegations of animal mistreatment involve dogs, cats, horses, and cattle. According to research created by All Creatures Great and Small (ACGS) and the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations (FIAPO), 4,93,910 animals were harmed by people between 2010 and 2020.

How many stray dogs and cats are there in India?

According to a recent study, there are 6.2 crore stray dogs and 91 lakh stray cats in India, and 77% of the population report seeing a stray dog at least once a week.

India's high incidence of stray populations was also highlighted by the Condition of Pet Homeless Index data, which is lowering the nation's score on the "All Pets Wanted" scale.

India received a total score of 2.4 out of a possible 10.

According to the report, "almost 68% of the population, or almost 7 in 10, say they encounter a stray cat at least once a week, and nearly 77%, or almost 8 in 10, say they see a stray dog as regularly."

Animal Rights:

Animal rights violations are nothing new for Indians. However, the majority of residents opt to disregard the issue for the sake of convenience. As a result, India has experienced an increase in incidents of animal abuse. CCTV footage from March 2021 reveals a guy assaulting a puppy in Mumbai. Every day, the country's financial capital reported eight incidences of animal maltreatment. A monkey did hang and beaten to death in Telangana; a street dog has been beaten, tied to a scooter, and afterward thrown off the second floor of the building in Ludhiana; nursing students poisoned 16 pups in Kolkata; a pregnant elephant died after eating a fruit infused with a firecracker; as well as a tiger cub died after being hit by a motorcycle ran over it.

What rules & Laws apply?

Numerous rules for the protection of the four-legged, voiceless animals are guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. A few examples are the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Slaughterhouse) Rules of 2001, and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The Union Government "proposed" an amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 on March 25, 2021, according to The Indian Express. The amendment would increase the penalties for animal cruelty from a meager Rs 50 to Rs 75000, or "three times the cost of the animal," in addition to a 5-year prison sentence. An annual report on crime statistics is created by the National Crime Record Bureau. Unfortunately, it is not the Bureau's responsibility to keep a record of the crimes inflicted on animals.

A startling cultural difference :

India is known for its widespread practice of animal worship. In India, it is said that animals like cows, tigers, lions, mice, and monkeys have cultural connotations that unite many faiths. Despite this, there have been more instances of animal mistreatment and more severe cases of abuse. According to one Supreme Court decision, animal mistreatment that results from "legitimate" motives is not cruelty.

Internet fraud

The majority of pets are sold illegally online, which encourages fraud. They are raised in subpar circumstances and sometimes even sold without immunization, which puts both the potential buyer and the pet at risk. Don't be hesitant to contact the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change or the Animal Welfare Board of India if you encounter such a circumstance. Your little action can stop the online traffic in illegally traded animals. If you are unaware of the regulations, you can inform us.

Physical abuse

Seeing an animal being assaulted by a person might be extremely upsetting, but it's crucial to keep looking. Law enforcement must be contacted very away since animal cruelty is frequently a component of a wider campaign of abuse that can also harm people. You can file a complaint with the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change or the Animal Welfare Board of India.

Here, are some of those cases which happened make you wonder if they are human anymore?

Stay as kind to an animal as you are to humans and children. They also have lived the same as us. It is our responsibility to make the world around us also safe for them to leave and breathe. You can also help them by helpline numbers & by contacting to govt. or by informing police anything when you see or found any kind of act like that. Raise your voice for good.

So, at the end what matters is humanity and if you see anything like this at anywhere it’s our responsibility totake care of them as of responsible member of the country. We have to make the place as safe as of for this dumb animal also. Their eyes says a lot. Just be kind for them as a request to all of you
